Meet the designer

I’m Rachel, Paper & Desk founder and designer.

I’m a designer who switched from studying Law and Economics to graphic design after an internship in magazine writing led to a publication design role. This sparked my decision to enrol in design school. Soon after, I began freelancing in the evenings while holding down a 9-5 design job, pushing my creativity and gaining experience across various industries. Eventually, I built up enough work and experience to launch my full-time design office.

These days, I help individuals and businesses of all sizes showcase their offerings and stories through impactful, on-brand designs. With experience across various sectors—including fashion, foodservice, lifestyle, real estate, health, education, research, resources, consulting, horticulture, agriculture and events, to name a few—I offer diverse perspectives to create captivating material for your audience.

When I’m not in my office, you’ll find me reading about personal finance, assisting with communications workshops, or out camping.

Allergic to missed deadlines

I started as a print magazine designer, where meeting deadlines is crucial, as printers have set times and advertisers rely on timely releases (as they are paying for exposure). This experience drives my commitment to delivering your project on time, ensuring we build a schedule that allows for revisions while meeting your deadlines.

Your publication, my passion

What may look like just a magazine to you is a true passion of mine. I love designing publications and producing graphic assets. I can’t fully explain it, but I feel fulfilled in the design process and in helping my clients bring their vision to life. I genuinely care about both the design itself and the people I collaborate with to make it happen.

How can I help you with your publication?

Template only

I provide creative direction and design your publication template, either using your brand guidelines or creating a new design. Once complete, I hand over the files for your designer to take over.
Production only

You have an existing publication template and strong brand guidelines that guide the design. I will follow the established creative direction to design your publication for visual consistency.
The Works

I provide creative direction and design your magazine template, either based on your brand guidelines or from scratch. I will then create the entire publication and prepare it for digital or print.
Training

You have an in-house designer handling your publication, but you’d like me to provide training and support to your team or handle all pre-print checks before sending the files to your printer.
